SUMMARY:Artificial Intelligence Minors Symposium
DESCRIPTION:Artificial Intelligence is rapidly changing the way we do research and the day to day operation in our profession inside and outside of academia. The field of Artificial Intelligence involves both the development of computational techniques and the societal impact of these techniques. Introducing these technologies into society will have a profound impact on future generations\, and hence requires skilled professionals with understanding of AI. Erasmus University Rotterdam and TU Delft have developed AI minor programmes\, each with its own approach\, to prepare students for the role of AI in their future. \nThe aim of this symposium is to inform you about these AI minors that have been developed within the AI Convergence alliance. During this symposium we give short presentations about the different curricula and how they were aligned and developed in close collaboration with each other\, while maintaining their own signature and emphasizing different views on AI. \nAfter the presentations we want to discuss how future AI education could be developed in the next few years and how new collaborations could take shape. DESCRIPTION:7th International Workshop on Dynamic Stability Challenges of the Future Power Grids DynPOWER 2023\nThe 7th international workshop on dynamic stability challenges of the future power grids ‘DynPOWER’ will take place in Mondai | House of AI\, Delft\, Netherlands\, on 25 September 2023. After a series of successful workshops in the past years in Winterthur\, Switzerland\, the organizing committee decided to bring the community together outside of Switzerland for the first time to discuss\, interact\, and work on some of the most pressing problems facing energy systems. \nThe 2023 workshop will cover a broad range of topics around power systems dynamics and applications of big data and machine learning to dynamic simulators in two separated sessions. DESCRIPTION:In deze AI Lab Lunch presenteren het AI Futures Lab en het IRIS Lab zichzelf en hun laatste ontwikkelingen! \n(De voertaal van dit evenement is Engels) \nThe AI Futures Lab is all about AI for Rights & Justice in Remore Work. This lab team explores configurations of people and AI around rights and justice\, aiming to expand both scientific knowledge and public understanding of AI capabilities. The empirical research focus of this lab extends from remote work to robotics and security. Their goal is a tangible and vibrant set of prototypes\, experiences and theories that map out ways in which design can be engaged to deploy AI and machine learning in support of rights and justice. By prototyping new relationships ‘WITH AI’ that are respectful of agency\, rights\, and justice\, we will open up spaces for new developments ‘IN AI’. \nThe IRIS Lab (Intelligent & Reliable Imaging Systems) focuses on developing AI for quantitative bioimaging. This lab develops AI-based technology that improves microscopy methods for biomedical use. The technology will be demonstrated on electron\, optical\, and ultrasound imaging but is applicable much wider. It will be able to unravel biological processes\, from a molecular level up to a much larger scale. DESCRIPTION:We are happy to host the Dutch Post-CHI 2023 Event!What is this Dutch Post-CHI event?\nFollowing the global spirit of meeting fellow HCI folks within a local region\, this year CHI NL aims at bringing the HCI community in the Netherlands together after CHI 2023. The goal is to provide an opportunity for researchers to present and discuss their accepted CHI 2023 works in a smaller and cozier manner than what the enormity and madness of the CHI ship allows. We are currently still developing the program\, but this will include: \n– CHI 2023 presentations / posters / demos\n– Keynote by a surprise guest\n– HCI outreach talks (on topics related to CHI Netherlands\, trends within CHI\, industry focus\, etc.)\n– Informal social chat and networking + borrel! \nJoin us for a full day event of exciting CHI 2023 talks\, networking\, and collective reflection with fellow HCI researchers in the Netherlands. Click here to join!Margaret Mitchell\nMargaret Mitchell is a researcher focused on the ins and outs of machine learning and ethics-informed AI development in tech. She has published around 100 papers on natural language generation\, assistive technology\, computer vision\, and AI ethics\, and holds multiple patents in the areas of conversation generation and sentiment classification. \nShe has recently received recognition as one of Time’s Most Influential People of 2023. She currently works at Hugging Face as Chief Ethics Scientist\, driving forward work in the ML development ecosystem\, ML data governance\, AI evaluation\, and AI ethics. She previously worked at Google AI as a Staff Research Scientist\, where she founded and co-led Google’s Ethical AI group\, focused on foundational AI ethics research and operationalizing AI ethics Google-internally. \nBefore joining Google\, she was a researcher at Microsoft Research\, focused on computer vision-to-language generation; and was a postdoc at Johns Hopkins\, focused on Bayesian modeling and information extraction. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Aberdeen and a Master’s in computational linguistics from the University of Washington. \nWhile earning her degrees\, she also worked from 2005-2012 on machine learning\, neurological disorders\, and assistive technology at Oregon Health and Science University. She has spearheaded a number of workshops and initiatives at the intersections of diversity\, inclusion\, computer science\, and ethics. Her work has received awards from Secretary of Defense Ash Carter and the American Foundation for the Blind\, and has been implemented by multiple technology companies. She likes gardening\, dogs\, and cats. \nAbout HCAIS Event at TU Delft\nThe Human-Centred AI Systems (HCAIS) Deep Dive Series is a regular gathering hosted for and by TU Delft HCAIS community\, usually at Mondai | House of AI. Every meeting we zoom in on a different HCAIS-related challenge\, methodology\, technology or research niche. During these events\, you can participate\, learn\, make connections\, inspire and be inspired for new research for Human-Centred AI Systems. One of the goals of this series is to explore the key properties of human-centred AI research and education at TU Delft\, as well as the transdisciplinary nature of human-centric AI.
